All of them could understand english. If someone talked to them in english they could understand, a written material they could understand but they couldn't speak. There was this deep rooted fear in their minds. Most of them completed their education in Marathi, they learnt english by translation method. They joined certain english spoken classes they were thought only grammar from a grammar book and the teacher himself could not speak good english, so students felt nervous at the time of interviews and G.D's. Ladies could not speak on the parent's day or similar occassions in school.
