Did you know that some food may protect against carries. Milk and especially cheese appear to be able to raise pH values in the mouth and so reduce tooth exposure to acid. Milk and cheese are both rich in calcium and phosphate and soon may encourage remineralisation through the calcium and phosphate in the mouth when these foods are eaten. They may also increase saliva production and pH level in the mouth.

Foods high in fibre may also help to increase the plan of saliva. Fresh fruit is not strongly associated with carries.

Another factor which affects the risk of developing carries is the retention of the carbohydrate foods such as rainsins or toffees may stick to the teeth and so reduce the pH in the mouth for a long time.

What do tree branches, wild boar, hairs and nylon have in common? The bristles of a toothbrush are made from these items.

Powdered fruit, talc, honey, dried, flowers, mice and lizard liners were all ingredients of ancient toothpaste.
